InsTanzen 

choreographic score for any audience and any space celebrating "Le Sacre Du Printemps”

 

On May 29, 1913 at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris the audience witnessed the world premiere of "Le Sacre du Printemps” written by the Russian avant-garde composer Igor Stravinsky and choreographed by Vaslav Nijinsky. Because of their unusually emotional reaction to the work the public became part of the legend around this work which marked the beginning of modern choreography. When the light was switched on in the auditorium it unveiled a chaotic and complex choreography of audience action, voice and movement. Despite its importance to the reception of the performance this part of the choreography was never reconstructed.

 

deufert & plischke invite the audience to take part in thе myth of “Sacre”. In their choreography "InsTanzen" everybody is invited to step on stage. Therefore interactive suggestions for movement and actions are distributed at the beginning of the performance. All of them get mixed, handed on, reformulated by everybody present. The development of the choreography is completely up to the audience.

 

Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke are critically acclaimed German artists in the field of contemporary dance and performance. Since 2001 they work as the “artistwin” deufert&plischke. They have been pursuing their goal of a new epic theatre. Epic because of its intertwining of theatrical reality, situative collectivity and personal narrative documentation. In the past years they have collaborated with a number of artists in different European cities, including Sofia. They develop their own artistic practice of reformulation which is based on processes of continuously passing on and transmitting materials. Their work is equally at home in museums and other spaces as in theatres, deufert&plischke have been lecturing at art academies in Germany and abroad for eleven years. They have been senior lecturers in "Dance, Context, Choreography" at the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin (HZT) since 2010.
