The stage is set with a drum kit and a dancer to undertake a dissection of movement in time.  The limits of speed and stillness are broken and reach into the unexpected. Walking, talking, blinking – is it too fast or too slow? “How is Now” observes time and re-shapes the way it frames us. At which moment of acceleration a movement exceeds the limits of normality? And how does speed make the body express estrangement and otherness provoking thus new ways of perceiving human shapes? A virtuosic performance that evokes also something archaic. "With great economy of means  (…) lighting designer Mark Howett, together with composer Malfatti and choreographer Young, created a work of tremendous depth and subtlety and precision about the fundamental condition of our being: time." Laurie Young is a dancer and choreographer from Canada. She moved to Berlin in 1996 to begin working as a founding member of “Sasha Waltz and Guests” and continued in the company until 2003. She was a member of Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz from 2000-2003. She has also performed for such choreographers as Meg Stuart, Benoit Lachambre, Eszter Salamon a.o. Laurie Young’s own work has been mainly solo based and extends from the personal politics of viewing a body on stage.  It includes also performance installations and site specific performances as well as collaborations with video and film artists. Her latest choreographic contribution with Canadian artists Janet Cardiff and George Burres Miller (Alter Bahnhof Video Walk) was exhibited at Documenta (13) in Kassel. She is also involved with the Volkswagen Institute’s new initiative “Arts and Science in Motion” which brings together artists and scientists in an effort to work through inter-disciplinary methods of research.
